About Us
Columbus Preschool Inc. was formed in 1973 by a group of parents interested in providing a preschool experience for their children. The Columbus Women’s Civic Club provided initial funding and support. The school has become an increasingly important part of our community, undergoing extensive growth from sixteen four year olds the first year to over fifty students the last number of years. More than 1500 students have attended the Columbus Preschool over the last 30 years!
Columbus Preschool is licensed by the State of Wisconsin as a group center and provides it’s educational program for 3, 4, and 5-year-old children regardless of race, religion, or national origin.
The preschool is presently housed in the VFW building at 213 Farnham Street, Columbus, Wisconsin. Columbus Preschool is a separate entity, providing separate programming. The preschool purchased the building in the summer of 2009. The VFW members and Ladies Auxiliary continue to hold their monthly meetings at the building.
Columbus Preschool is a nonprofit, democratic, parent run organization. It is owned and managed by all the parents and succeeds only with the help of all the parents. The Board of Directors is elected from the parents by the parents and they serve as the administration and director of the preschool. They manage the finances, provide and maintain the building and equipment, and hire well-qualified personnel. The board meets the second Wednesday of each month to attend to the affairs of the preschool. Parents pay tuition, which basically finances the operation of the school for one year. In addition, parents participate in fundraising activities, and help by serving on various committees.
In short, each and every parent is a part of this school, sharing in the joys and successes, as well as the responsibilities of the preschool.
